Cuba has a warm and humid tropical climate all year, but travellers are welcomed to visit the country in the months of the Dry Season, from January through April, when the average temperatures of 22-25°C are really pleasant. Occasionally, during this period tourists can experience cold weather and even storms, but these are rare meteorological phenomena.
The warmest months are from May to October, when the average temperature in Havana increases to 25-27°C and the extreme humidity makes visitors to sweat profusely. This period is known as the Monsoon Season, when prolonged rains fall almost daily, often causing big floods. Rarely hurricanes are possible in this period.
Despite the differences in temperature, visitors will be confronted with a known problem, the mosquitoes, regardless the seasons. This problem can be higher in the coastal aria and even in the big cities. The mosquitoes can be fierce especially around areas with mangroves.
Since most tourists are expected during the winter, this is the time when the most popular hotels in Havana are fully booked with the city busy with festivals, visitors and music. All hotels are owned by the Cuban state. Hotels in the resorts arias can be considered to reach international standards, although large areas of the country have only Soviet-era hotels. You should avoid motels and posadas, which are ill-famed places.
